In DYD®, you will begin to discover your giftedness by doing two things. . .

(1) Telling Stories

First you will tell several stories from your life, in your own words. Not about things that have happen to you, but about activities you enjoyed doing and feel you did well.

(2) Looking for a Pattern

DYD® will help you analyze your stories to find a wonderful and consistent pattern in the way you function—the way God has designed you to function.

Giftedness is Seen in a Pattern of Motivated Behavior. . .

You have a very consistent way of functioning, a unique pattern of activity for how you “do life.”  You live out your motivational pattern again and again throughout your life.

Think of your life as a tapestry in which five colors of thread weave together  to form a consistent pattern of Motivated Behavior.

The consistent satisfaction and outcome you love to work for or towards.

The things or people you love to work on, with, or through to accomplish your results.

The ideal conditions or environment in which you thrive.

The role(s) or way(s) you prefer to relate to others, and to authority.

The core strengths you instinctively and consistently use, and enjoy using.

Pursuing a Vision for Your Life

Step 1—Identify your GIFTEDNESS

Step 2—Create a VISION for your life, based on your GIFTEDNESS. A vision is a picture of what your life could look like at some point in the future—say, five or ten years from now—if you intentionally put your giftedness into play.

Step 3—Develop a PLAN. That plan might involve any number of matters that must be addressed: education/ training, credentialing, new relationships/ networks, key information, money, fellow team members, etc.

Step 4WORK THE PLAN . It commonly takes people about 5-7 years to get from where they are today to experiencing a version of their envisioned future.

The cool thing about working the plan is that things can happen in the world over time that have significant implications for your vision, possibly making it bigger, better, more appealing, or more significant than you could possibly imagine today. .

All of that makes your vision more like a North Star than a hard-target goal: it’s something to always navigate toward, but never fully realize. The vision pulls you onward and gives your life meaning, purpose, and direction.

DYD® helps you identify your giftedness. But it’s only the first of four steps or stages you must work through to end up where you want to go. . .
